SCHNEIDER TROPHY RACE
The Schneider Trophy Air Race took place again around the Solent,
but the course was altered for 1923. The start was at Cowes, with
turning points at Southsea, Selsey, and then back to Cowes, a
distance of 37.2 nautical miles, the five laps would totalling
about 180 miles. The entry included pilots and aircraft from Britain,
France, Italy and the United StatesThe race was won by an American,
Lieutenant David Rittenhouse, flying a Curtiss Navy Racer CR-3,
at a speed of 177,4 mph. |
